Google\u2019s Project Fi shows the search engine giant\/Android owner\u2019s commitment to bringing the entire experience to American customers \u2014 not just the mobile OS. However, Project Fi has been restricted to the latest devices such as the Huawei\/Google Nexus 6P, LG\/Google Nexus 5X, and Motorola\/Google Nexus 6, up to this present point. To make matters worse, Google\u2019s Project Fi is a mobile virtual network operator (or MVNO) that merges the networks of T-Mobile and Sprint, allowing customers who don\u2019t care to use these networks to have an affordable smartphone plan while rocking a current device that is guaranteed fast updates quickly. Google is the owner of Android, so it\u2019s not surprising to see the promise of fast updates. This is no different than Apple becoming a wireless carrier, an idea that I think wouldn\u2019t be worth the risk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Well, Google realizes that the price point of the Nexus 5X can be a bit of a \u201csticker\u201d with customers, and the invite system is something of a turnoff (iust ask OnePlus with the OnePlus 2), so the company is pulling out some major stops to get consumers to jump on board with Project Fi. According to the company\u2019s latest announcement, Google is now granting Project Fi adopters a free opportunity to join the service sans an invite, not to mention granting a major price drop on the LG\/Google Nexus 5X, bringing the price down from $379.99 (the original)<\/a> to $349.99 (the result of a permanent price cut<\/a>) to now $199. In other words, you can expect to pay half of the original price on the Nexus 5X and get one of the latest devices from Google while getting Project Fi all at the same time. Keep in mind, too, that Project Fi recycles your money each month for data that you don\u2019t use (so you\u2019ll never spend more than what you use). I imagine that seeing a monthly credit in your account may make you leave Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T, for that matter.<\/p>\n

Of course, it\u2019s imperative that you know the stats behind the device, what you\u2019re getting as far as specs and features are concerned, before you toss $200 behind it. The Nexus 5X runs the Snapdragon 808, so don\u2019t expect a super zippy experience like you\u2019d find on the LG G5 or the Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge. The device has a 5.2-inch display, as distinct from the 5.5-inch display of the LG G5 or the Galaxy S7 edge. As far as specs, the Nexus 5X is a mid-tier device \u2014 but you can\u2019t find too many mid-tier devices that\u2019ll get the latest and greatest from Android.<\/p>\n
